The trail official on free kicks should be prepared to get to the location of the foul if there is any question as to ball location, or if 10 yards is REQUESTED. Do NOT involve yourself unless the kicking team asks for 10 yards, at which time you indicate to the players on the field that there will be a whistle to restart(which the lead official has). This is the trail official's responsibility so the lead official can be ready in position for the free kick to take place. So if there is a free kick 25-35 yards from goal, as the trail official you need to sprint in and be NEAR the free kick area in case your presence is required. If there is any delay or encroachment on the defense, the trail referee can handle it depending on the severity with a verbal warning or caution. Once the wall is set after the trail referee indicates that there will be a whistle to restart, the trail will let the lead know that we are ready for restart, and the lead will blow the whistle. |
